{ an evening of music! }

February 29, 2008

I just enjoyed a fabulous evening of music! I have heard about this local family band, so it was such a treat to see The Abram’s Brothers! I loooove bluegrass/folk music.. and man were they ever good! The brothers are now aged 14 and 17 (their cousin is also 14, playing the double bass), but they have been playing together ever since they were 6 and 9! I have to confess that I have a slight obsession with family bands :) These guys reminded me a bit of The Barra Macneils, who is my favorite family band EVER. :)
We also heard Rob Carnegie sing, who is a local recording artist… we are really blessed to have Rob attend our church because sometimes he sings on Sunday mornings which is super awesome. He is very very talented. All the proceeds from tonight went to Kingston Youth Unlimited which is a drop-in centre for city kids to go and hang out so they stay out of trouble :)

Here are just a few photos from this evening…

{ Green Tip #4 }

February 25, 2008

This is a good one for this time of year!

This will probably be a really hard one for you if you’re used to sitting in your car with the heat on in the cold :)

Green Tip #4: Just 10 seconds of idling your vehicle consumes more energy than is used to restart the vehicle.

{ any questions? }

February 23, 2008

I have been looking at my blog statistics and it shows that about 80-150 people view my blog every day! (I must say, I am very flattered!) I’m just wondering what you all enjoy most about my blog… what should I post about? Do you have any questions about me or my business or what goes on behind the scenes? Post a comment or shoot me an email with a question that I can answer on my blog!!! Don’t be shy….questions are the key to knowledge! The only dumb question is the question not asked. :)

shawnreeder: What are you using to check your blog stats Naomi? I love coming and checking out your blog because I love your energy. Always so warm and friendly and helpful. Hope you're having a lovely day.

Erin: Hey Naomi - I look at your blog pretty regularly because I just love how positive and energetic all your posts and pictures are...they always make me smile (charn too! :)

naomiclaire: hey erin!! yay!! i feel so special that you always read my blog!! :) shawn, there is a stat program built right into typepad :)

Karen: Just check in a few times a month to keep up on what you're doing! Smiles, ~Karen

Garrett: I check it to see if there are any fantastic stories about that cool group of photographers you hang out with. :D Oh, and the photos are nice too.

Sarah: I'd love to know what equipment you are using, lens size, etc. and are you happy with your camera, have you tried other brands, do you use a tripod? This may sound weird, but could you give some of the details on some of your pics, like f-stop, wb, iso, do you work in manual all the time, and manual focus? lots of questions!!

{ leaving for sno camp!! }

February 22, 2008

Every year the youth group at my church gets to go on a wild and crazy weekend adventure called Sno Camp at Muskoka Woods! Actually I think this is the first time it’s been at Muskoka Woods.. I believe it has always been at Muskoka Bible Conference. ANYways.. I am very excited because since I am a leader this year, I get to go along with them on the trip!! Here’s a photo from last year. Don’t worry, I will come back with some kickin’ photos to show you all!!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!!

{ editing }

February 21, 2008

Clients always ask me what it means when I say that I need to ‘edit’ their photos before I put them online. First I go through all the images and edit out all the shots where people are blinking or have funny expressions. Then I open each image individually, and adjust the colours, contrast, and brightness.

Here is an example of how your photo would look straight out of the camera, with no editing at all:

And here is what it looks like after it’s been edited. First I brighten up the image, then add contrast, and then add some saturation to make the colours pop.

So now you know why it takes a few days for me to get all your images online!

shawnreeder: Thats so funny but I was thinking about doing the same thing, a blog post showing some before's and afters. Thanks for sharing!

{ happy little aaron }

February 20, 2008

We’re so excited because Josh’s cousin (aka. brotha from a different motha) and his wife and kids are moving from Calgary to Kingston this spring! They are here house-shopping this week and it’s been so great to have them around. Although they have 2 adorable kids, they only brought their newest little one, Aaron, with them on the trip. He is such a sweet, happy, and content baby. We had a mini photo shoot with him yesterday, and he just smiled and giggled the whole way through!

Check out those big blue eyes…
