Studio Newborn Session - Preparation Guide

WHAT TO EXPECT

The studio address is 252 Stratford Road. It is a green building and my suite is at the very front on the right hand side.

There is a couch for you to relax (or nap!) on while I photograph your sweet bundle.
Feel free to bring a drink, snacks, a book/magazine, or just relax and surf on your phone while I am photographing your baby.

The studio will be quite warm to ensure your baby will be comfortable while undressed, so please dress appropriately so you don’t over-heat!
Sessions can last anywhere between 2-4 hours but they typically last around 2.5 hours.

The length of the session all depends on whether we will be doing family/sibling poses, how easily your baby settles, and how many soothing/eating breaks we need to take. I am very baby-led and will not force your baby into any poses that they aren’t happy with. Not every baby will do every pose.

If you will be doing sibling and family photos, we will start with those, and then one parent (or another care giver) can take your older child(ren) home so we can focus on your new little bundle.

(**Please make arrangements for 1 parent or another care giver to leave with your older children after the family/sibling portion is over.)

Your baby's comfort and safety is my #1 priority! Some sessions are quicker than others but it is all dependant on your baby.
Some babies want to eat a lot more during their session than normal, and some babies sleep longer between feedings.
This is totally normal and I just go with the flow!
I am very laid back and nothing phases me, so please don’t stress if things don’t go perfectly.

TIPS FOR A SLEEPY BABY
If you are able, please give your baby a bath before their session, clean away any eye goop, and moisturize any dry skin.
If possible, please feed your baby before you leave and dress them in a loose fitting zip up sleeper that is easy to remove.

WHAT TO BRING
All you need to bring is yourselves, and your diaper bag. The only other thing that can be helpful is a pacifier. Even if you haven’t used one yet, sometimes using it for even a very short moment can really help your baby settle into certain poses.

I have many props, buckets, bowls, crates, wraps, bonnets, and headbands, so you do not need to bring anything for your baby to wear. If you do have some colour preferences, or if you have a special heirloom item you’d like incorporated, please let me know before the session.

WHAT TO WEAR
Moms: I always recommend choosing your outfit first, and then coordinating everyone around your outfit. Flowy dresses photograph well, as well as neutral colours. Your nails will show in some photos. Manicures are not necessary, but no chipped nail polish please!

Dads: Jeans and a short sleeved grey, blue, or any neutral colour t-shirt is a great choice.

Sisters: Leggings with a dress, or light coloured snug fitting t-shirt/tank top work well.

Brothers: A white or light coloured t-shirt works great with jeans or khakis. Just try to stay away from distracting logos.

If you have any questions at all, please let me know! I can’t wait to meet you and your family!
